How to change up your redhead haircare routine from Autumn into Winter

As the air turns cooler and the leaves become redhead camouflage, your red hair might start to feel a little different too. Just like your skin, your hair reacts to seasonal changes, and as we move from crisp autumn days into the chill of winter, it’s worth giving your routine a little refresh.

Cold air outside, central heating inside, and less natural humidity can all lead to dryness, dullness, and damage. But with a few simple tweaks, you can keep your red hair soft, shiny, and full of life right through winter.

LOCK IN MOISTURE

As temperatures drop, the air becomes drier, meaning your red hair loses moisture faster. It's time to swap lighter conditioners for more nourishing ones, and try leaving them in a little longer for extra hydration, too.

Applying some warmth to your head while the product sits gives the ingredients a little boost to penetrate the strands more effectively, too.

PROTECT FROM CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE

Winter can be tough on hair from both sides: cold, dry air outdoors and the drying effects of central heating indoors. Use a weekly hair mask (or more frequently if your hair is particularly dry) to restore balance and moisture. Look for ingredients known to help strengthen and protect, like henna, rose and coconut.

And if you’re braving the elements, a silk-lined hat is a winter hair hero on those super-chilly days.

BACK AWAY FROM THE HEAT STYLING

Red hair tends to be more delicate than other hair types, so this season, ease off the heat where you can. Lower the temperature on your tools, or try air-drying halfway before styling.

Speaking of lowering temperatures, brace yourself every wash day to end your shower with a cool rinse of your hair – it smooths the strand, locks in moisture and adds some natural shine.

GIVE A DAILY DOSE OF STRENGTH & SHINE

This is the perfect time of year to add a leave-in conditioner to your routine. Our Henna, Rose & Sweet Orange Shine-Boosting Leave-In Spray helps to hydrate strands while boosting shine and smoothness without weighing hair down (with the added henna bonus).

With just a few adjustments, your red hair can thrive through the colder months, staying soft, hydrated, and full of vibrancy.
